Barbies, Star Wars and drones! The 2016 New York Toy Fair has just wrapped up, and what a great fair it was. Every year, toy and game makers show off their new toys, giving people a chance to have an early look at what could be some of the hottest toy trends of the year!
Drones have gotten very popular in the last few years, and lots of companies have gotten on the drone craze by building their own versions. Audley Toys showed off their new drone, which can be flown using voice commands! Called the Sky Rover, this helicopter-shaped drone will fly and even launch plastic missiles at your command. Another flying toy, the Sky Viper Hover Racer, is controlled by smartphone. You can fly the drone in races against friends, or create a flight path for it to follow automatically.
The new Star Wars came out last year, and lot of new toys came out along with it. The Toy Fair hosted a huge number of Star Wars toys, including doll, Legos, video games and even pillows. The new Star Wars movies also came with some exciting new sets, and Lego was at the fair showing off their new Lego building sets so you can create your own favorite Star Wars scenes. And if you can’t get enough Star Wars and Legos, watch for the new TV show Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, a cartoon that will be done with Lego-like characters on the Disney XD channel.
Barbie may be one of the most famous dolls in the world, and she got a makeover at the Toy Fair this year! Mattel, the makers of Barbie, introduced some new body types, curvy, petite and tall, that gives the doll a more realistic shape. The Hello Dreamhouse got a renovation (re-make) as well, and is full of high-tech upgrades. The house has WiFi, and comes with an app and software that will recognize voice commands. So you can turn on the lights or turn the stairs into a slide just by speaking the command out loud!
